4 Ideas for Self Care for Busy Moms

Being a mom is one of the most joyful experiences that you can have as a human being. However, it can be one of the most exhausting jobs on the planet.

If you are currently feeling a bit burnt out from the stress of taking care of your kids and your home you probably need some self-care.

Self-care is very important when you are taking care of others. It can be tough to prioritize yourself when you are a mom but it is necessary if you want to give the best to your children.

Here’s a look at some self-care tips you can implement today.

Engage Your Mind

Yes, your mind is very engaged already with making sure your kids have what they need and shutting them back and forth from various activities. However, you also need to engage your mind to focus on yourself as well.

Focus on yourself by reading a book or doing a crossword puzzle. Try adult coloring if you are so inclined. Whatever you do, make sure that you are engaging your mind so that you focus in some way on you.

Doing this will help you to stay mentally grounded and reduce feelings of overwhelm.

My personal go to activity is diamond art. I can sit and work on that late at night after kids go to bed and it is super relaxing. You can get kits to try yourself right on Amazon. Here are few of my recent finished pieces.

Develop Strong Routines

Developing strong routines is critical when you are taking care of others. Create routines and stick with them as much as possible so that your kids will become accustomed to them.

Let kids know to get out of bed, be ready for school or go to bed at a certain time. These are all routines that must be developed to make things flow a lot more steadily.

If you also have to take care of elderly parents make sure that they also have routines as well. You can bring in a caregiver to assist you as well.

However, always go through a reputable agency, you do not want to hire someone and then have to hire an elder abuse attorney because they have abused your parent. In my case along with having 2 young kids I have a father who has a lot of physical and mental issues. He needs a lot of extra care that my parents nor I can afford. We looked into our states medicaid plan and was able to get extra support through them plus he is a vet so my mom has a nurse aid come in and help.

Pamper Yourself

Taking time out of your day to pamper yourself in some way is very important. You could have a relaxing bath in the afternoon or get a nap if you can.

Make time to get your nails done or a facial. You can have an entire spa day. Just ensure that you are doing something every day that will pamper yourself and make you feel special.

It is often said that you can’t pour from an empty cup and this is very true. This is why taking care of yourself is so important.

I know I said everyday, but let’s be honest as a mom its hard to carve 5 minutes of alone time. I cherish that 5 to 10 minute shower when I can shut the door turn on the hot water and enjoy the silence. If thats all you can get for yourself it will change your mood I promise.

Prioritize Self Care

Self-care is something that you cannot afford to put on the back burner. When you do this you are likely to feel the effects sooner rather than later.

You will be no good to those around you if you are not healthy enough to take care of them.

Make sure that you take a close look at the tips that have been given here and decide how you can make your life easier as a busy mom.

Enjoy every minute being a mom and continue to inspire your kids!
